Welcome springtime!
Living in Edinburgh for a couple of weeks already. So far I love it. I got a room at Napier Universities student accommodation. They call it the Wright’s Houses [map] and it is right next to the Meadows and the Golf Tavern – a cozy bar with pretty affordable prices for students.
For those who don’t know or forgot already: I’m here in Edinburgh to study my last year in school, but also to write my Diploma thesis.
The city is pretty expensive, especially when coming from the US. I’m still counting in US-Dollar. That makes it even worse. But they’ve a lot of good deals for students. Never seen that before. Almost every pub has discounts up to 40% off for food and beverages or pay 1 get 2 lunch deals. That makes living for me a bit more affordable.
With all universities together, there are about 60.000 to 80.000 (heard a lot of different numbers) students in town. That’s almost 1/5th of the population. Thus, life is very social here. There’s always something going on. In the pubs and on the streets.
Although I’m still tired from all the socializing in San Francisco and Maui. So right now I’m mostly at home, making myself comfortable, having a cup of tea and enjoy reading or playing around with new technology.

On the road to Scotland
Fully packed and probably overloaded we started our 3 day journey to Scotland. After picking up Felix we drove up to Goettingen, stayed there for a night and my aunt’s place and continued our trip on the next day to Amsterdam [map 1].
From there we took the overnight ferry from DSDF Seaways for a pretty good price (EUR 230.- for 2 passengers and 1 car) to Newcastle, an English city at the border to Scotland, from where we drove up to Edinburgh [map 2].
More picture from the road trip are in my Picasa web album.
