¡Viva España!

   Posted by: Stefan    in Spain

I made it! After touring for almost 3 months through Europe from the most northern part of Scotland to England, from Newcastle with the ferry to Amsterdam, then Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and France again I finally made it to Spain. What a summer. Camping on hidden Mediterranean beaches,  “showers” in the ice-cold rivers of the Swiss Alps, great Italian food. Oh, great food everywhere. Many new friends. Many unforgettable memories. I’m out of money, once again. But hey, life is good. It can’t get much better, not even if I would have money.

Below are some pictures of the Costa Brava, the Wild Coast in the North East of Spain which we passed through on our way to Barcelona. Check out all pictures in my Picasa Gallery.

Beauduc, Camargue (Southern France)

Posted by: Stefan    in France, Kitesurfing, Outdoors

After driving 40 minutes on a dirt road through an area quite similar to the Australian outback following rough notes, which I got from my French friend Nicolas we finally made it and arrived at the hidden beach of Beauduc [satellite view] – the hardest to find but definitely one of the best beaches in Europe with its 28km of natural white wild sand. A haven for nature lovers and hippies but also for kitesurfers who love to hang in the strong winds and float over the flat water in the twilight of the dusk.

Road trippin’ along the Riviera

Posted by: Stefan    in France, Italy, Kitesurfing, Outdoors

Road trippin’ along the Italian and French Riviera with my exquisite travel chef Natalie and of course George, the best camping car ever ;-)

It took us from Torino southwards over Asti to Savona and from there all the way along the Mediterranean coast: Sanremo, Nice, Antibes, Cannes, Saint-Tropez to Hyères, where we stopped for a few days with strong winds and awesome kiteboarding sessions.

Check out the pictures in my Picasa Gallery.

Torino, Italia

   Posted by: Stefan    in Italy

Torino – the business and cultural center of Northern Italy. Capital of the Piedmont, right next to the Po river and surrounded by the Alps. Famous for chocolate, film art and Italian suits. It’s hosts the headquarters of Fiat (Italian car company) and many aerospace companies. Whoever thought Torino is an ugly industrial city check out these pictures in my Picasa Gallery.

Crossing the Alps to Italy

Posted by: Stefan    in Italy, Switzerland

After having an awesome time in Switzerland we decided to continue towards Italy. To get there we’ve to cross the Alps via the Great St Bernard Pass, which is the most ancient pass in the Western Alps. It takes course basically from Lausanne (Lake Geneva) in Switzerland all the way through the Aosta Valley (Italy) until it reaches Torino. It is famous for the St. Bernard dog, which was bread and trained to find and rescue lost mountaineers in avalanches.

Grindelwald – Meeting the North Face

   Posted by: Stefan    in Switzerland

On our trip around Switzerland we also stopped by Grindelwald (right next to Interlaken), a very popular summer and winter destination in the Swiss alps. Mostly famous for it’s three mountains: the Jungfrau, Eiger and Mönch. The area is featured in many movies, among them are James Bond, Star Wars and The Golden Compass. Especially the Eiger is world-renowned from the book The White Spider written by Heinrich Harrer (also: Seven Years in Tibet), in which he tells the real story about the first ascent (and attempts) of the very difficult and dangerous North Face.

Since 1935, at least sixty-four climbers have died attempting the north face, earning it the German nickname, Mordwand, or “murder wall”, a play on the face’s real German name Nordwand. (Source: Wikipedia)

Amsterdam

Posted by: Stefan    in The Netherlands

After a week of kiteboarding and a crazy party night at the Sensation White we spent a weekend in Amsterdam with our lovely CouchSurfing host Jantine, who is unfortunately (well fortunately for her, but unfortunately for other CS guests) now moving to South America. She gave up her highly paid job as an IT Project Manager to dive into another adventure of working as a volunteer and living life to the fullest. But before she left we had the opportunity to stay at her beautiful little house right at one of the many channels in the Netherlands. Good times. The restaurant in the pictures is the Norderlicht Cafe. Highly recommended.
